We are seeking an Office Technician to join our contact center team. Under the general direction of the Contact Center Manager (Staff Services Manager I), you will demonstrate your sensitivity, active listening, and excellent customer service skills by responding to incoming calls from the public. You will determine if the caller should file a complaint with our department, which type of complaint to file, and will instruct them on how to file. You will take complaints over the phone and schedule appointments for interviews. You will provide accurate and detailed information on the many areas of CRD's jurisdiction, make referrals where appropriate, and update our case management system in regard to inquiries on active cases. You will rotate into the office to process incoming and outgoing mail and may assist with other projects as needed.

This is a hybrid position. In-office presence will be required twice weekly, at CRD's Sacramento headquarters office.

Department Information The Civil Rights Department (CRD or Department) is the civil rights enforcement agency for the State of California. CRD's mission is to protect all people in California from employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination, human trafficking, and hate violence.

The CRD is the largest state civil rights enforcement agency in the country. It enforces the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Persons Act, Ralph Civil Rights Act, and the California Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The Department has jurisdiction over both private and public entities operating within the State of California, including corporate entities, private sector companies that contract with the State of California, and all State departments and local governments.

The CRD receives, investigates, conciliates, and initiates individual and systemic discrimination complaints in its six offices throughout California. CRD litigates individual, class, group and systemic cases in all California jurisdictions, including state and federal courts. It leads education and outreach efforts to stakeholders and the public, and has an active regulatory and legislative program.

Telework Opportunity

The California Civil Rights Department supports hybrid work schedules, including telework days, for employees who can perform their essential functions remotely, as operationally allowed. Travel expenses from your home to your assigned headquarters location is considered a normal commute and are not reimbursable.

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of your ability to follow instructions and to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Applications submitted without an SOQ may not be considered for an interview.
