Under the supervision of the Staff Services Manager I, Office of Correctional Safety (OCS), the Office Technician (Typing) provides clerical support to OCS and acts as the OCS timekeeper. The incumbent must demonstrate initiative, independence, and resourcefulness in completing the more difficult and complex duties assigned to the position. This position requires the ability to maintain confidentiality and tactfulness in carrying out competing work priorities.

This job is located in downtown Sacramento.

This job is Limited Term up to 12 months and may become Permanent.

The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process. HRTS will require new candidates to set up an account, which allows them to track their application's progress. Through their account portal, candidates will also be able to provide any additional information needed in the hiring process, including setting up interviews as needed. After the final filing date, applicants will receive an email from DoNotReply@cdcr.ns2cloud.com or DoNotReply@CDCR (depending on the email provider), with direction on creating and/or accessing their account.

The Office of Correctional Safety (OCS) supports the mission of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The OCS mission is to protect the public and serve the CDCR investigative and security interests. OCS is comprised of the following sub-units.

• The Special Service Unit (SSU) conducts the major criminal investigations and prosecutions, criminal apprehension efforts of prison escapees and parolees.

• The Fugitive Apprehension Teams (FAT) conduct field arrest operations of high-risk parolee violators/absconders.

• The Emergency Operations Unit (EOU) oversees special departmental operations such as special transports; hostage rescue; riot suppression and firearms.

• The Emergency Planning and Management Unit (EPMU) oversees all departmental emergency planning, preparedness, response and recovery needs.

• The Criminal Intelligence Analysis Unit (CIAU) identifies and conducts trend and link analyses between criminal suspects and criminal enterprise organizations operating within California's correctional systems.

• The Investigative Training Unit (ITU) Conducts and monitors statewide investigative training needs and procurement compliance with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).

Special Requirements
  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Candidates new to CDCR or Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
