Job Summary:

MedStar Health is looking for an Officer I Armed to join our team at MedStar National Rehabiliation Hospital!

As an Officer I Armed, you will ensure a safe environment for our patients, staff and visitors. Duties include patroling hospital property, responding to calls for assistance, and reporting on conditions, objects or persons which may impact the security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures and regulations. Security Officers are essential associates in a 24/7 environment and may be required to be flexible with scheduling and work \"off-shifts.\" Must obtain and maintain State of Maryland and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Armed Special Police Officer Commission to carry out duties associated with crime control and response.

Primary Duties:

• Immediately responds to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers. Conduct designated security patrols throughout the facility as directed. May be required to patrol the hospital campus/grounds via security by foot, motor vehicle or bicycle. Controls access to and inspects packages of those leaving buildings. Reports all safety, security, and law violations.

• Monitors security and appearance of lobbies, waiting areas, elevators, and entrances. Prepares and submits reports and logs of all incidents, investigations, and activities. Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.

• Proficient in and utilizes nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure staff, patients, visitors, and all others remain safe, calm, and respected while onsite. Helps with wayfinding, parking, deliveries, and other requested information for the hospital and MedStar Health affiliates.

• Responds to security and medical code calls. Investigates incidents and accidents. Gathers information and evidence. Notifies appropriate authorities or superiors and calls for back-up assistance. Testifies at legal proceedings, hearings, and trials.

• Collects and secures patient valuables and lost-and-found articles. Monitors camera surveillance and other security technology systems as directed. Responds to circumstances where the exercise of law enforcement authority may be required. Assists supervisor with daily supervision of the shift to include monitoring communication center and monitoring security officers to ensure that their duties are being performed correctly. Assumes charge role as needed.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED. Associates degree preferred.

• 5-7 years related security, corrections, or law enforcement experience.

• Prior armed security experience preferred.

• Driver's License - Endorsement P (Passenger) Valid driver's license.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Maryland Special Police Commission required.

• Must have 40 hours of initial firearms certification training from a certified police instructor authorized in the appropriate geographic region.

IAHSS Certification as a Security Officer preferred.
