THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN.

This faculty position will involve patient care, resident teaching, and research responsibilities. The position will focus on pediatric oral and maxillofacial/craniofacial surgery and the faculty member will support the growing clinical initiative in the department's pediatric surgery program. It is anticipated that the faculty member will promulgate the progress that the incumbant, Dr. Tyler Holley has established in this area with the ongoing development of strategic alliances at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. The faculty member will leverage his or her clinical practice to the benefit of resident teaching and the performance of clinical research. The faculty member's practice will be grown to support the development of a fellowship program in pediatric oral and maxillofacial/craniofacial surgery. Finally, this faculty member will bridge the gap that currently exists between East Tennessee Children's Hospital and the University of Tennessee Medical Center in terms of streamlining the pediatric maxillofacial trauma program.

The faculty member will supervise residents in their clinical training and in their research endeavors that represents a "must statement" in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery accreditation standards within the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

The allocation of effort for this position will be 60% clinical, 30% educational, 7.5% research, and 2.5% institutional service.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires an MD degree as well as a DMD degree, completion of a six-year OMFS residency program, and fellowship training in pediatric/craniofacial surgery.
  • The faculty member will possess board certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the time of hire, or within two years following hire.
  • A Tennessee medical license is required.


DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:

The faculty member will have broad clinical training in oral and maxillofacial surgery with subspecialty training in pediatric oral and maxillofacial/craniofacial surgery. It is anticipated that the faculty member will focus his or her clinical efforts in these disciplines while representing an effective liaison between East Tennessee Children's Hospital and the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Additionally, this faculty member will support the department's initiative in adult maxillofacial trauma management.

Subspecialty training in pediatric oral and maxillofacial/craniofacial surgery is required for this position.
