UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is currently seeking an Operating Engineer who will operate, make repairs, and monitor all building systems such as HVACR, electrical power, life safety, medical gases and direct digital controls. The Operating Engineer will also be responsible for snow removal, preventative maintenance, performing minor craft work and, when needed, miscellaneous outside grounds work.

This position will work weekends and holidays. Work shift will be determined based on Union Bidding.

Responsibilities:
  • Follow and provide input relative to the construction status of jobs.
  • Maintain tools and inventory.
  • Conduct tours as required.
  • Operate and assist in maintaining and trouble shooting the various direct digital and pneumatic controls.
  • Assist in the maintaining, testing and trouble shooting and resetting of fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
  • Check O. R. relative humidity and temperature.
  • Prepare necessary related reports.
  • Reset automatic doors.
  • Check and reset clocks.
  • Calibrate instruments.
  • Perform minor roof repairs.
  • Test fire jockey and main pumps and prepares written reports.
  • Monitor and keep elevators in good operating condition.
  • Inspect electrical distribution systems, locates short circuits, loose connections, etc. and makes minor repairs.
  • Operate department vehicles including street sweeper.
  • Responsible for the operation for CHP Complex including all Oakland satellite buildings as assigned.
  • Perform rounds of all mechanical/electrical equipment and checks their operation.
  • Make minor repairs and issues requests for work orders for major repairs.
  • Monitor, repair, fill and test medical gas back up systems and gas outlets and prepare reports.
  • Regulate, check, adjust, start and stop all operating systems and equipment such as, but not limited to: Steam Heating Systems, Water Heating Systems, HVAC System, Pneumatic Tube Systems, Tarn Pure Systems (including monitoring and logging data), Water Treatment Systems, Kitchen Equipment, and All Control systems.
  • Clean, oil, and make minor repairs to all building equipment.
  • Perform filter changes - AHU, air boxes, fan coils, etc. and maintain filter change logs.
  • Perform water chemical tests.
  • Ensure gas cylinders are full and in good operating condition.
  • Responsible for the proper operation and shut down of all utilities.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance Work assignments.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • Vocational Degree required.
  • 3 years of experience required.
  • HVAC and Refrigeration experience preferably in health care or service repair field environment.
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored.
  • No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Universal refrigeration recovery certification is preferred.
  • Driver's License
  • Stationary Engineer
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
