Job Description Summary
The Operating Room (OR) Liaison reports to the Sterile Processing Supervisor. Under general supervision, the OR Liaison performs daily activities between the OR and Sterile Processing Department to facilitate efficient case flow to include communication with the OR staff to ensure availability of specific instrument and supply needs and transport of appropriate instruments to the designated cleaning area as needed. This position promotes customer service satisfaction through training, education, and resolution of staff and physicians.

Job Description

Coordinates and oversees daily activities between the Operating Room (OR) and Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to facilitate efficient case flow.

Responsible for assisting in projects and process improvement initiatives in compliance with Policies & Procedures, Goals and Objectives and Expectations

Promotes customer service and satisfaction through training, education, and resolution of Staff and Physician issues and concerns.

Accountable for demonstrating awareness of personal and work area safety at all times; using evidence-based practices (EBP) and complying with facility safety policies and procedures in carrying out duties including those for blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases and; keeping knowledge current on aseptic techniques and basic microbiology sufficient to understand the ways diseases and infections are transmitted and the importance of clean and sterile supplies in patient care; attending training in new and improved sterilization practices and developments in the microbiology, bacteriology, and therapeutic practices as they affect the sterile supply operation.

Provides input to SPD managers/supervisors, charge RNs, OR managers, and SPD coordinators regarding any instrumentation issues.

Reviews daily schedule with SPD and ensures all case carts, trays, instruments, and supplies are appropriate, available and complete.

Assess the resource needs for surgical instrumentation and informs OR and SPD management.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

An associate’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of significant hospital work experience in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room; or high school diploma or equivalency (GED) and five (5) years of significant hospital work experience in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room required; bachelor's degree in related field.

A thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and software programs relevant to the work area required.

Must have the ability to build and maintain relationships; execute customer service, leadership, adaptability, and problem solving.

Must maintain knowledge of cleaning, assembling, packaging and sterilizing of all instruments and equipment according to the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD), the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), and the International Association of Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) current standards.
