Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Operations Engineer to join our Alabama River Cellulose Facility located in Perdue Hill, AL. This position will work with a team of experienced professionals comprising day and shift staffs to ensure the operating departments meet the daily targets to support our continuous operation.

Since 1978, the Alabama River Cellulose (ARC) mill has been a major part of the economic lifeblood of the region. Recognized as one of the largest pulp operations in North America, the mill is also considered the largest manufacturer in Monroe County and one of the largest employers in the area.

What You Will Do

  • Successfully contribute on an operating team to achieve excellence in safety, environmental, reliability, quality, production, cost, and capital management.
  • Fostering our PBM® culture including valuing safety through risk identification and personal ownership.
  • Gather process data and perform statistical/analytical tests to uncover important variables and their impacts.
  • Provide technical support for the manufacturing process area to facilitate troubleshooting and problem solving to achieve goals.
  • Lead and support root cause analysis (RCA) for the production process.
  • Develop technical capability of others by ensuring skill building materials are correct and transferring process and equipment knowledge via daily interaction and formal skill building.
  • Partner with operators, Maintenance technicians and Process Control Engineers to understand all processes and how teams and individuals are involved and impacted at each step.
  • Develop and implement best practices and innovative solutions to improve and optimize production rates, quality output, direct costs, and uptime.
  • Support Disciplined Operations through Key Performance Indicators management.
  • Optimizing the operation for efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Identifying capital improvement needs and working with engineering teams to implement.
  • Holding team and individuals accountable for operating and reliability strategies.
  • Fostering a continuous process improvement work environment.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Operations experience within an industrial, manufacturing or pulp/paper environment.
  • Experience in industrial process operations, continuous processing equipment, materials processing, or machine operations.


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Pulp and Paper Science.
  • Experience with power and recovery, continuous digesters, bleaching, or pulp/paper machine operations.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
