University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full time Ophthalmic Imager II to support the Vision Institute located at St. Margaret's Hospital (100 Delafield Road Suite 201 Pittsburgh, PA 15215). This position will work Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm (less than 5% travel will be required)

Responsibilities:
  • Perform a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the operation of specialized equipment to assist physicians in documenting, diagnosing, and treating diseases of the eye, including fluorescein angiography, ICG angiography, color fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, OCT angiography, retinal thickness analysis, slit lamp and goniophotography, visual field testing, external photos, and a-scans.
  • Reviews physician?s orders and patient?s medical history and allergies in Epic prior to performing imaging and photography.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and condition of the patients serviced in the department. Provides for care and/or extends services as described in department policies and procedures.
  • Explains imaging procedures to patient, obtains consent and provides instruction during imaging, including fluorescein angiography and ICG angiography.
  • Perform intravenous administration of fluorescein and ICG dye for angiography as ordered by the physician. Notifies the physician in the event of adverse reaction and provides for patient safety/comfort and documents in Epic.
  • Functioning knowledge of eye pathologies and understanding of how best to photograph each differently and document phases of angiographic studies using fundus camera. Must be able to recognize the difference between healthy and concerning areas to identify where to photograph. Recognize the importance of taking additional images as well as the requested images if unusual or unexpected pathology is apparent.
  • Recognize problems or malfunctions of photographic, diagnostic, and related equipment versus patient media opacities. May assist in making minor adjustments and perform preventive maintenance in accordance with established procedures. Advises supervisor of malfunctions or problems affecting the accuracy and quality of scans or images requiring repair by vendor.
  • Recognize and help rectify issues with image import into Forum, image archiving and storage and managing duplicate patients, including contacting IT/Forum group as required.
  • Maintain adequate levels of supplies for imaging department and notifies supervisor of supplies needing to be ordered.
  • Access and review previous patient notes within Epic.
  • Able to train technicians to perform optical coherence tomography, Humphrey visual field, fundus photography, a-scans, corneal topography, external photos.
  • Participates in the collection of patient history and complete ocular workup such as visual acuity, ocular history, vital signs, intraocular pressure, and records results in patient record, as needed.
  • Ophthalmic imaging procedures which may include but are not limited to fluorescein angiography, ICG angiography, OCT, Anterior OCT, HRT, Color fundus photos, corneal topography, visual fields, a-scans, b-scans, external photos.
  • Ability to edit and transfer images from digital camera to the patient database in Forum and Epic.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy of the eye and ophthalmic disease processes.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of ophthalmic experience AND ophthalmic imaging/photography certification
    • OR 5 years ophthalmic experience required
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    Valid CPR certification
  • Act 34
