Responsibilities*
Basic Function and Responsibility
- Performance rformance of Technician Associate level tests and skills in addition to:
- Perform basic refraction, basic ophthalmic photography, axial length measurements, basic slit lamp examination, ocular motility.
- Perform triage and complex history taking and charting. Act as coordinator for research studies as assigned.
- Ability to insert, remove, clean, and store contact lenses. Assist with Consent forms for patient procedures.
- Assist with minor office surgery.
- Assist physicians with patient education.
- Assist in developing, preparing, and updating a clinical orientation, training protocol, and procedural manual. Perform as a "float" technician in other clinical areas, including satellite clinics, as assigned.
- Assist with teaching, training, and orientation of Ophthalmic Medical Personnel students, and Ophthalmic Technician Associate's.
- Assist with teaching department continuing educational courses.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- Graduation from high school is necessary; two years of college with courses in the health science area is desirable.
- Reasonable experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required.
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required.
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician Ophthalmic Technician (COT) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is desired.
- Experience with clinical research is desirable.
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and medical terminology is desirable.
- This classification requires registration, certification, or licensure with the appropriate agency as identified on the Primary Source Verification matrix.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Supervision Received
- Functional supervision is received from a lead ophthalmology technician and/or other clinical, medical, and professional staff, including other senior-level technicians.
