Full-time Optometrist

This position will split time between our offices located in Plymouth Meeting, PA and King of Prussia, PA

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
  • Performs routine eye exams independently and refers patients for glasses to the optical shop. In addition, this doctor will assist in urgent care eye exam work-ups to triage as appropriate to ophthalmologists.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participates in regularly scheduled patient care activities, which includes: taking a pertinent medical history including relevant symptoms as appropriate: pertinent ocular health, family and medical history, medications, current glasses and any other data required to manage the patients' vision and ocular health needs. Performs slit lamp exam and fundus examination as necessary.
  • Clearly and completely documents history of present illness, systemic and ocular history, impressions and clinical action plan in the electronic health record. Creates referral letters to other providers, and to assist in long term medical management, and optical prescriptions as necessary. In particular sends referral letters back to PCPs for annual diabetic eye examinations.
  • Uses test and procedures to detect and appropriately manage ocular disorders such as cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and macular degeneration. Appropriately order and document diagnostic findings in the medical record.
  • Documents in a manner consistent with Medicare coding and documentation guidelines, and conforms to the requirements of PQRS and Meaningful Use and any other quality program in which Wills Eye Ophthalmology Clinic may participate in the future.
  • Ensures accuracy of individual patient diagnostic and procedure codes and participates in medical record review when requested.
  • Complies with all HIPAA regulations, including but not limited to maintaining confidentiality of all patient information by encrypting all emails and text messages which include patient information.
  • Agrees to participate with any insurance plan which Wills Eye Ophthalmology Clinic chooses to accept and will cooperate with all insurance credentialing processes in a timely manner.
  • Actively communicates with optical, ophthalmology, support staff and fellow optometrists to optimize quality and clinical care and service to patients. Assist in integrating the optometry staff intot the clinical workflow of an ophthalmology teaching environment.

  • Position Requirements
    Education:
    • OD degree from an accredited School of Optometry
    Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year required.
    • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and to apply the principles, theories, practices, and techniques of optometric practice, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, and mechanics of the human eye, visual processes, and detailed knowledge of ocular pharmacology and therapeutics.
    Certification/Licensure:
    • Current Pennsylvania license from the State Board of Optometry.
