OR Support Aide - Surgical Institute of Reading

The Surgical Institute of Reading (SIR), an affiliate of United Surgical Partners International, offers a high quality, service-oriented environment for surgical patients. SIR ranked in the top 100 hospitals for total joint replacement for five years and for spine surgery for the last two years. Our state-of the art facility has four operating rooms and one procedure room, allowing surgeons to perform procedures in the specialty areas of:

Anesthesia, Gynecology, Orthopedic, Orthopedic Foot & Ankle, Pain Management, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, General and Spinal Surgery.

We are looking for two full-time OR Support Aides working 8 hours per day with flexibility to assist with the following duties.

1. Open sterile packs and supplies, using surgeon's preference card for specific requests. Use supplies conservatively and efficiently.
2. Follow proper procedures regarding exposure to Category I tasks. Universal precautions/BBp standards in effect at all times. Eye protection will be worn by all Surgery Center scrubs at all times.
3. Follow proper procedure for handling hazardous waste materials.
4. Retrieve warm blankets. Assist in moving and positioning patients.
5. Taking litter out of room and clean when necessary.
6. Retrieve in-patient beds as needed.
7. Gather supplies and retrieve items when necessary.
8. Arrange OR equipment as directed by Circulator and Scrub Tech.
9. Hold legs/arms for sterile prep and tourniquet application.
10. Turnover rooms - clean, remove trash, etc.
11. Spread table in hallway for next cases.
12. Transport instruments/tables to Decontamination Room.
13. Stock warmers with blankets and fluids.
14. Stock sterile supply carts.
15. Return unused instruments and supplies to storage area.
16. Replace cleaned equipment carriers to shelves.
17. Restock operating rooms as necessary.
18. Restock linens in OR hallway.
19. Assemble case instrumentation for next day.
20. Assist with inventory/expiration date checklists.
21. Provide additional support in the SPD area.
22. Provide support and additional duties as deemed necessary and as directed by OR Supervisor

Required Skills:

Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required

Demonstrates ability to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day

Demonstrates ability to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis

Demonstrates ability to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis

Require constant and frequent judgment and response.

Require high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care activities. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, occasional overhead and low reaching, bending, and the ability to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly

Required Experience:

Experience preferred.
