Organ Procurement Coordinator - AdventHealth Orlando

Location Address: 601 E. Rollins St., Orlando, FL 32801

Work Hours/Shift: Night (12/hrs Shifts), 13 Shifts per month

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Assume 24 hour on-call responsibility for consistent and timely response to organ donor referrals and to import organ offers for local transplant centers.
  • Provide family support and request authorization for organ and tissue donation in a sensitive and compassionate manner.
  • Perform all aspects of donor evaluation and management according to TransLife policies in concert with the Translife Medical Director/designee.
  • Allocate organs according to TransLife policy and oversee the surgical recovery, preservation and transportation of organs; allocate imported organs.
  • Determine medical suitability of organs post recovery with Medical Director.


Qualifications
What You Will Need:

Required:
  • 1-year recent critical care experience
  • Current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Registered Nurse, OR
  • Current Florida License for PA, or RT, OR
  • Current Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator by the American Board for Transplant Certification
  • Valid Florida Driver's License, Class D or E, and driving record in accordance with AdventHealth policy

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree in health-related field
  • 3 years recent experience in donor management and organ allocation with a CMS certified OPO
  • ACLS / PALS
  • Bilingual
  • Computer skills
  • Extensive critical care experience
  • Trauma Center experience
  • Public speaking experience
  • Teaching / Precepting experience


Job Summary:

The Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC) must be dedicated to supporting the mission of TransLife to provide the opportunity to improve and extend lives through organ and tissue donation for transplantation. Responsible for all aspects of organ recovery including responding to organ donor referrals within a ten-county area, collaborating with the TransLife Medical Director to evaluate donor suitability, and requesting authorization for organ and tissue donation. Oversees the donors' critical care management while coordinating the placement, surgical recovery, preservation and transportation of organs. Assumes responsibility for the allocation of imported organs within the DSA (Donor Service Area). Requires flexible hours with 24 hour on-call responsibilities, travel within the service area, occasional air travel outside the service area and working for extended periods of up to 24 hours. As a team member of the OPO, the OPC actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
