Outreach Coordinator

For 17 years Piece by Piece has been empowering individuals who have experienced homelessness and economic hardship in and around LA's Skid Row and South Los Angeles neighborhoods. By providing free workshops in mosaic arts Piece by Piece has created an environment of learning through the healing practice of the creative arts that enables participants to gain confidence, engage in social interaction, participate in a community of support, partake in the potential to earn income, and most importantly, to achieve improved sense of well-being and a more stable financial footing. At Piece by Piece, we hold that the arts, in all its forms, speak in a universal language that can bridge divides within the community, foster creativity, and serve as a mirror for society with the power to influence introspection and self-discovery. Piece by Piece currently serves some 3,400 people annually between our in-person and on-line workshops and community events. Given the enormous unhoused and temporarily housed population across Los Angeles, we reach only a small number of those we might help. With the support of three VISTA members, Piece by Piece will be able to greatly expand our impact by focusing on establishing more non-profit partnerships to recruit participants, securing more commissioned projects (greater earned income for participant artists), and a robust network of trained volunteers to assist artists in workshops, and generate more awareness of our free programs so that we can address the unmet needs within the population we serve.

Member Duties : The Outreach Coordinator will enhance Piece by Piece's community engagement by establishing partnerships with local nonprofits, housing developers, and case workers to recruit new participants. This role involves strategically identifying and aligning with organizations that share similar demographics and missions-refining our existing CRM to create an organizational database and compiling a comprehensive list of referral organizations to expand our network. The coordinator will also develop and implement outreach procedures alongside a detailed three-year plan, including events, community fairs, and personalized recruitment efforts to meet our objectives. Furthermore, creating professional communication tools is essential to ensure new participants receive a warm welcome and access to the resources needed for success at Piece by Piece. This role demands a strategic, professional approach to building relationships and fostering community connections to support our growth and mission.
