Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Paralegal provides legal support to the staff of the Ballad Health Legal Department. Flexibility, organizational skills, attention to detail, initiative, resourcefulness, and willingness to work as part of a team are required. Excellent customer service and organizational skills are necessary, as well as problem solving, communication, and decision-making skills. This team member must be able to juggle multiple projects, tasks, and responsibilities. The ability to maintain confidentiality is of utmost importance. The Paralegal will provide legal support in the following areas:
Research and review statutory, regulatory, and case law utilizing electronic research capabilities and library resources on a range of issues, including, but not limited to:
Contractual agreements
Employment issues
Regulatory issues
Corporate matters
Medical staff issues
Healthcare professional licensure issues
Policies and procedures
Patient care issues
Reimbursement issues;
Assist with review and drafting of contracts, including but not limited to:
Physician contracts
Construction contracts
Contracts for sale and lease of property
Service contracts
Supply, equipment and maintenance contracts;
Assist with review and drafting of legal pleadings, motions, discovery documents, risk management documents, as well as any other documents pertaining to litigation and risk management issues;
Assist with preparation of litigation files, legal research, organization of depositions, medical records, obtaining and communicating with consulting and testifying experts, and general preparation of case on behalf of client and in support of attorney assigned to file;
Coordinate with psychiatric facilities and the applicable court(s) regarding involuntary admissions;
Assist with review and drafting of policies and procedures;
Assist with drafting legal correspondence;
Coordinate conference calls and meetings;
Assist with preparation of presentations;
Assist with the coordination, performance and implementation of special projects and corporate initiatives, including, but not limited to:
Compilation and organization of due diligence materials for asset or stock acquisitions and sales; and
Filing of annual reports and other corporate filings with appropriate administrative or regulatory offices.
Assist with organization of department documents and maintenance of contract database;
Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is desired. Two (2) to four (4) years of paralegal experience, preferably in a healthcare setting, or a minimum of ten (10) years of legal assistant experience including experience with legal research, contract drafting and other paralegal experience is required. Graduation from an American Bar Association approved paralegal education program, certification as a Professional Paralegal ("PP") by the National Association of for Legal Professionals ("NALP") or Certified Paralegal ("CP") by the National Association of Legal Assistants ("NALS") preferred. The individual should possess extensive experience in the use of a computer with knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Westlaw.
