The Workers' Compensation Administration assures the quick and efficient delivery of indemnity and medical benefits to injured workers at a reasonable cost to employers.

Why does the job exist?

This position supports the functions of the enforcement bureau, who is charged with enforcing the NM Workers' Compensation Act. The enforcement bureau paralegal provides the Enforcement Bureau litigation and administrative support. This position requires prioritizing workload and handling many tasks at the same time; ensuring deadlines are met; maintaining a case docket and tracking system; and maintaining bureau statistics. Once a case is on a hearing track, this position completes the drafting of pleadings, the filing, scheduling, and trial preparation. Administrative support includes the determination of workflow; the compilation of information for reporting purposes; the consideration of budgetary considerations; the maintenance of records in accordance with retention schedule and NM Public Records Act and providing assistance in special projects.

The job is completed on behalf of the NM WCA enforcement bureau and the NM WCA.

Ideal Candidate

Ability to managing schedules and case calendars on behalf of the enforcement bureau; strong legal drafting and communication skills; familiarity or experience in the legal or workers' compensation fields; familiar with court processes; and proficient with Microsoft Suite and Excel.

Minimum Qualification

Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies and two (2) years of experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting legal research and maintaining a case management/tracking system. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Drivers License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Certification as a Court Monitor completed within 6 months of hire

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, lifting and reaching may be required. Ability to complete assignments with a high level of accuracy within strict time constraints. Frequent use of office machine and equipment. Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs.
