This position will report directly to the Attorney within the Transportation Regulation Adjudication Unit (TRA) Department and will provide administrative support to the Attorney/Hearing Examiner.

Why does the job exist?

This position will keep the TRA unit running smoothly and help the Hearing Examiner by:
Developing and managing the Adjudication unit's docket system, work with department manager, the public, other state entities and organizations, scheduling hearings, assisting the Hearing Examiner in preparation for hearings, performing legal research gather and prepare reports, securing and scheduling court reporter services, creating, organizing, and maintaining Adjudication unit files, drafting and transmitting legal documents (notices, scheduling orders, subpoenas, recommended and final decisions, etc.), monitoring the Adjudication unit's email account , interfacing professionally with parties, providing guidance and support during hearing processes, and reviewing and analyzing policies and procedures.

How does it get done?

Developing and managing the Adjudication unit's docketing system; creating, organizing, and maintaining Adjudication unit files, work with department manager, the public and other state entities and organizations, provide support to department manager and those involved in hearing process, manage and maintain workflow.

Assisting Hearing Examiner in preparation for hearings; scheduling hearings; securing and scheduling court reporter services,, conducting research, gathering information and preparing reports.

Drafting and transmitting legal documents; performing legal research, gather information and prepare reports, review and analyze policies and procedures and notification of any changes, make recommendations on course of actions.

Monitoring the Adjudication unit's email account; interfacing with parties; other duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:

* Experience creating first draft documents for attorneys including legal pleadings, discovery
requests and responses, witness lists, motions and other legal filings;
* Experience organizing large amounts of records, physical documents and electronic records, into
a coherent, accessible format;
* Experience collecting evidence and taking witness statements; and
* Experience conducting electronic legal research and preparation of summaries of the legal
issues presented and relevant law for the requesting attorney.

Minimum Qualification

Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies and two (2) years of experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting legal research and maintaining a case management/tracking system. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
