Hours - 36/week, 7pm-7am

Under the guidance and direction of the Emergency Department Medical Director, and the general supervision of the Emergency Department Manager, and in accordance with standards of care and practice referenced by the State of New Hampshire Medical Control Board's Paramedic Local Option Patient Care Protocols as described in the NH Code of Administrative Rules He-P 1200, and the established departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:

Patient Care

a. Interviews the patient and/or family to obtain a comprehensive history and to obtain data about patient's development status, behavior, cultural, and health concerns.

b. Examines the patient to obtain objective physical data.

c. Based on interview, identifies patient care problems.

d. Collaborates with RN in triage by establishing priorities and initiating treatments. Does not replace ED triage RN.

e. Documents data on appropriate form according to instructions.

f. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to address patient needs.

g. Reassesses patient status at established time frames and as indicated by the patient's status.

h. Reports status and changes in status as appropriate to the triage RN/Charge RN.

i. Assesses potential for development of crisis situations and asks for assistance.

j. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to develop an integrated plan of care.

k. Documents tasks appropriately.

l. Implements the medical diagnostic and therapeutic orders.

m. Performs patient care tailored to the individual's needs.

n. Provides for patient's dignity during provision of care.

o. Assures calm, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients and their families, serving as an advocate when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Current licensure with the State of New Hampshire as an EMT-Paramedic, or National Registered Paramedic with the capability to become New Hampshire licensed within 30 days. Must have NH License before able to work on ambulance.

• ACLS, PALS, and CPR certification required at time of hire and throughout employment

• MOAB and NIHSS certifications are required to be obtained within the first year of hire.

• Recognized Trauma Course (PHTLS, ITLS, TCCC) recommended

• Valid driver's license required, State of NH preferred, prior to working on ambulance.

• Verification of good driving record at time of hire and annual essential driver skills assessment as required per department policy.
