The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a motor equipment operator to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level.
Applicants must possess a valid class A CDL with air brakes at time of application submission to be eligible. In addition to hauling and equipment operation, this position is part of the overall labor team. This position operates equipment, including a tractor/bucket loader with attachments, skid loader with attachments, mowers, and other grounds maintenance equipment. In addition to equipment operation, the position is required to haul all CDL required truck and trailer combinations with equipment and materials. In addition to working with a crew, this position may be dispatched individually for certain assignments. Completes a variety of tasks associated with mowing and grounds/park maintenance. Completes repairs and maintenance of park facilities, playground equipment, picnic areas, walkways, trails, fencing, signs, and other park amenities. Responsible for the mowing and maintenance of parks, athletic fields, and trails. Serves as subject matter expert on safety requirements for equipment operation and maintenance procedures. Uses gas-powered equipment including string trimmer, chain saw, blowers, hedgers, etc. Inspects and drives a truck and trailer, and hauls equipment and material to various job sites. Informs supervisors of conditions requiring special attention. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Completes required documentation and daily work reports. May supervise laborers in the absence of the Maintenance Crew Chief. Note: Reports each morning to Area 2/Wakefield Park, 8116 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003 and is dispatched to assigned parks. Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with overtime required when necessary. Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work required. Positions are subject to transfer to other maintenance operation locations. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position. Position is designated as Emergency Service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to:
Completion of the tenth grade; and two years of experience in the operation of medium/light motorized equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift 50 pounds up to 75 pounds with assistance. Ability to use hand/power tools. Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment and truck/trailer. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

- Operates load luggers and septic tank trucks, and may use specialized equipment on each;
- Operates road rollers to compact subgrades, sub-bases, shoulder materials, and
- embankment areas;
- Operates single-axle dump trucks and small trailers in the loading, unloading, and
- transportation of small motor equipment;
- Operates various small equipment such as tampers, chain saws, concrete saws, etc.;
- Drives a refuse collection truck, overseeing crew members, checking truck for proper
- operating condition, and making minor repairs;
- Performs maintenance on medium/small equipment and vehicles (such as checking and adding fuel, water, oil and air; checking the brakes and cleaning vehicles);

- At least three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of outdoor maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors and landscape equipment;
- Small engine repair;
- Rough carpentry skills;
- Pesticide applicator (registered technician) or the ability to obtain;
- Class A CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Combination with Air Brakes;
- Driver's License (Required)
