The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation is actively searching for a full-time Park & Recreation (P&R) Equipment Operator to join our team!

Located at our Headquarters Office in Boise, ID, this position will primarily operate within our South Region. Here, amidst the breathtaking landscapes and outdoor wonders that define Idaho's South Region, you'll serve as a P&R Equipment Operator, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the accessibility and allure of the extensive trail network.

Teaming up closely with our experienced Recreation Program Specialist, you'll actively contribute to the planning and execution of trail projects, leaving an indelible impact on the recreational offerings of the region. During the warmer months, you'll expertly craft and preserve trails as a Trail Cat Operator, surrounded by Idaho's remarkable views. Come winter, your focus will seamlessly shift to managing snow removal equipment, ensuring continued access to snowmobile havens and winter wonderlands.

Example of Duties:

Design and layout Off-Highway trails on state and federal lands.

• Requires knowledge of trail construction techniques, water drainage issues, and state/federal requirements for maintenance/construction specifications.
• Construct/maintain summer Off-Highway Vehicle trails across a broad spectrum of public lands.
• Requires the ability to operate multiple pieces of trail-specific heavy equipment for the purposes of public use.
• The remote nature of these efforts also requires the ability of the position to maintain these same vehicles under difficult situations and without the benefit of extensive tools in a shop environment. Frequently, these maintenance efforts are conducted in below-freezing temperatures as well.
• Incumbents work in inclement weather and operate equipment in steep and rocky terrain, near cliffs, in heavily wooded areas and must have the ability to operate snow-groomers in remote locations (at night).
• Incumbents must perform construction-type work such as lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, bending, stooping, and climbing in and around construction-type equipment, and working in adverse climatic conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

Incumbents must obtain a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL A) within 60 days of hire and retain it for the duration of employment, as well as pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.

• Good knowledge of safety measures and practices used when operating heavy equipment including trail-specific heavy equipment, snow groomers. Typically gained by at least two years of work experience independently operating heavy equipment including trail-specific heavy equipment and snow groomers.
• Good knowledge of the use, care, and disposal of hazardous automotive material and waste. Typically gained by at least two years of work experience using, caring, and disposing of hazardous automotive material and waste.

• Knowledge of trail construction techniques, water drainage issues, and state/federal requirements for maintenance/construction specifications. Typically gained by at least one season'(approximately three months) of work experience working with trail construction techniques, water drainage issues, and state/federal requirements for maintenance/construction specifications.

• Experience diagnosing mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic malfunctions of trail heavy equipment. Typically gained by at least six months of work experience diagnosing mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic malfunctions of trail heavy equipment.
• Experience operating, maintaining, and repairing construction equipment. Typically gained by at least six months of work experience operating, maintaining, and repairing construction equipment.
• Experience grading surfaces and compacting soil to rough specifications. Typically gained by at least six months of work experience grading surfaces and compacting soil to rough specifications.
• Experience designing, fabricating, and welding construction-type devices. Typically gained by at least six months of work experience designing, fabricating, and welding construction type devices.
• Experience preparing records and reports. Typically gained by at least six months of work experience preparing records and reports, such as: checking records for accuracy and logging or posting information.
