GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.
Under the direction of the Lead Cashier, the incumbent follows established guidelines, policies and procedures. Determine parking fee and collects payment from customers exiting the garages. Provides customer service. Assists in activities related to the operation of the parking garages and lots.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.
Determine which procedure to use to correctly charge various customer categories. Determine whether customer qualifies for validated parking rates by using the IDX database or validations stamps from specific medical practices and retail stores (CRP Only) to verify appointments and visitations. Exercise a high degree of discretion in determining parking rates due to inaccuracies in the IDX system and or validation stamp system (CRP).
Explain parking procedures to both internal and external customers and direct them to the appropriate office/contact person within the Parking department for more information. Is thoroughly familiar with the most frequent exceptions to parking police
Operate fee computer, credit card machine, computer validator, and MGH networked computer. Prepares receipts for customers upon request. Performs operator maintenance on all equipment. Follows established procedures for various parking discount programs. Ensures all paperwork and documentation is completed properly prior to the conclusion of the shift.
Aids customers by providing information and directions. Assists customers with any vehicle problems they are experiencing by advising them of the proper method of obtaining assistance, calling for assistance, or when directed by the Lead Cashier provide the assistance directly
When directed, assist in: the management of traffic flow into and or out of the garages, conducting space counts, and daily wheelchair removal. Conduct "Courtesy Tours" of the garage on foot or in parking department vehicles. While on tour the "Courtesy Tour" Parking Services Assistant will provide assistance to customers, identify any maintenance or repair problems and note any safety issues or concerns. Provides customer service by acting in "Greeter Role" in garage lobbies
Completes appropriate forms for customers that do not conform to normal payment procedure
Participates in departmental emergency procedures to include but not limited to; Fire, Code Disaster, HAZMAT, Code Pink, medical and weather emergencie
Carefully reviews email and written notices for special event procedures and exceptions to parking policies and procedure
Advises Lead Cashier when parking garages and lots have reached capacity or when security issues arise
Other duties as assigned

Strong interpersonal and communication skill
Organizational skills to perform multiple tasks in a very busy environment
