Job Duties

The Science Museum of Virginia seeks a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to provide general grounds maintenance and upkeep across the Science Museum campus to maintain a clean and safe environment for our guests and staff. This position will provide facility maintenance, and grounds assisting with a wide variety of building and campus wide maintenance activities; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting other departments as required.

Must be able to work weekends and holidays. This position works an alternating weekend schedule.

Please note that this is a part-time position and will be scheduled for 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and use of basic lawn tools and equipment, knowledge of use of basic hand tools, painting and cleaning skills, the ability to follow instructions related to breakdown and reassembly of equipment, and the ability to lift heavy items. Knowledge of grounds maintenance and trades as well as basic skills in techniques, tools and equipment use. Ability to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing facility maintenance requirements. Valid driver's license required.
