WHP Endocrinology

Located at 10 Members Way in Dover, NH, this position will support our expert providers that specialize in care for patients with endocrine conditions, including diabetes, obesity, thyroid disorders, and a broad spectrum of other hormonal disorders. This practice focuses on specialized diagnostics and treatment, including advanced patient education programs to assist individuals looking to improve their health and enjoy a better quality of life.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a part-time, 20-hour Bariatric Registered Dietitian to support the practice onsite, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The hours for the practice are 8:00am-5:00pm, and the schedule for this position will be divided into 2, 8-hr days and 1, 4-hr day during the operating hours.

The Outpatient Bariatric Dietitian is responsible for maintaining a program that conducts Medical Nutrition Therapy for individuals and families who are being treated with weight loss medications or preparing for Bariatric Surgery. The dietitian performs a variety of specialized duties that assures nutrition counseling is provided to patients in the specialty area of obesity medicine, which may include but are not limited to weight management, assessing readiness for change, providing motivational interviewing, and developing goals. This position will also be required to teach support groups and assist in development of patient handouts and educational tools.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicate and implement plans for nutritional needs for weight loss outpatients.
  • Assess all new patient's weight history, Body Mass Index (BMI), alcohol intake, support system, meal planning, patterns, choices, binges and ability to cope with lifestyle changes.
  • Assess individual eating behaviors, nutritional needs and food preferences of the patient undergoing bariatric surgery or pursuing weight loss medication treatment.
  • Design and implement a plan with preoperative patients outlining a weight maintenance, healthy eating or required weight loss weight loss prior to surgery, evaluates patient understanding and adjusts plan according to results.
  • Educate patients on keeping a food journal, providing instruction on measuring and weighing food and fluids.
  • Complete Dietitian Note indicating plan of care and patient goals.
  • Educate preoperative patient on the Post Op diet progression. Assess the patient has adequate understanding of the bariatric post op diet prior to team approval.
  • Follow up patient visit assess met and unmet goals, review food diary for adequate information provided by the patient and determines motivation and dedication to the weight management program
  • Develop ideas and design for the bulletin board to educate the hospital staff and patients, as approved by the weight management manager.
  • Assess own ability to meet patient needs and asks for assistance from other health care professionals as needed.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude in dealing with problem or crisis situations.
  • Assist in program development, readiness for COE surveys, community and educational events
  • Flexibility with schedule when occasional evening hours are required for weight management/nutritional program support group classes.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • BS in Nutrition required
  • Completed Dietetic Internship required
  • Licensed Dietitian in the state of NH, Registered Dietitian required
  • One year of previous experience in outpatient setting, ideally in bariatric role strongly preferred
  • BS with an MS in Nutrition preferred
