Job Goals:
  • To work alongside fully qualified maintenance technicians to learn the skills of the trade(s) or skill area (s).
  • To provide outstanding maintenance services for school system facilities and structures.
  • To assist in maintaining school system facilities to provide supportive work and learning environments.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Apprentice Only - High school diploma, trade school diploma, or GED.
  2. Apprentice Only - Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  3. Demonstrated skills using standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the assigned trade or skill area.
  4. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of specific trades.
  5. Ability to read and follow directions.
  6. Ability to prioritize tasks.
  7. Ability to assist with a variety of duties.
  8. Ability to climb and work from ladders and heights.
  9. Ability to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
  10. Strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  11. Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors.
  12. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  13. Provide basic hand tools for assigned duties.
  14. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
  15. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  2. Assists with constructing, maintaining, servicing, inspecting, and repairing of school system structures as assigned.
  3. Completes work assignments with supervision, efficiently and neatly.
  4. Prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely.
  5. Engages in work-related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed and/or for advancement.
  6. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  7. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  8. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  9. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system.
  10. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
  11. Reports absences in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment/Salary: As established by the Board and applicable state law.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
