Since its establishment in 1941, the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University (IU) has grown from a small university teaching collection into one of the foremost university art museums in the country. Job Summary
  • Working with the Director of Administration and Strategic Initiatives, coordinates gift shop operations to achieve financial and branding objectives in alignment with the broader Eskenazi Museum of Art vision while providing the highest level of guest experience to ensure a welcoming environment.
  • Responsible for maintaining and executing annual and long-term shop business strategy that aligns with larger institutional goals and values.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the gift shop, including product development and lifecycle management, vendor research and communications, inventory management, order fulfillment, visual merchandising, customer service, and retail best practices.
  • Distributes monthly and annual sales reports to shop stakeholders.
  • Distributes semiannual and annual sales trend projection reports to shop stakeholders.
  • Assists in preparing annual gift shop budget, including prior year's expenses and incomes, projected overhead expenses for next fiscal year, and projected discretionary income for next fiscal year's product development.
  • Develops customized inventory system reports as needed to measure and communicate sales trends.
  • Conducts cost and returns analyses for all new product development proposals.
  • Reconciles invoices and p-card purchases for shop expenses in IMPAY and/or by coordinating with Finance Manager.
  • Initiates and manages the custom product development lifecycle.
  • Maintains a list of desired custom products and actively seeks vendor partners for production of desired products.
  • Actively engages in design revisions process with Creative Services department.
  • Manages inventory system, including all item records, pricing adjustments, and inventory adjustments.
  • Conducts audit and reconciliation of inventory on a semi-annual basis.
  • Manages product lifecycle, including sales and clearances to rotate stale and unsuccessful products out of inventory.
  • Identifies potential new vendor partners.
  • Manages vendor listings in the gift shop inventory system.
  • Communicates with vendors throughout product development and order lifecycle.
  • Conducts regular review of existing vendors to ensure competitive offerings and pricing.
  • Communicates specialty product needs with vendors to develop new custom products.
  • Monitors gift shop email account and responds to inquiries in a timely fashion.
  • Develops, monitors, and reports on gift shop customer surveys.
  • Provides support for customer questions/feedback during business hours.
  • Acts as the primary liaison with the café's point-of-sale associates.
  • Keeps up to date on payment methods and register systems.
  • Communicates with café staff about product pricing, sales, policies, etc.
  • Works with café staff to continually improve point-of-sale processes and customer service.
  • Communicates customer feedback to café management about café experience and/or offerings.
  • Manages the partner orders process, including order intake, fulfillment, and invoicing.
  • Distributes gratis copes of merchandise at director's approval.
  • Regularly reports customer feedback summaries and proposed action items to senior leadership team.
  • Interfaces with guests as needed in gift shop space.
  • Coordinates product promotion with Creative Services team.
  • May be responsible for light copywriting and photography.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of inventory, customer service, or other relevant experience

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to move up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
