Job Summary

The Advanced Media Lab (AML) in Research Technologies seeks a qualified student intern to design and develop immersive VR video content targeted at student audiences at IU. Immersive VR 180 video provides unique opportunities and applications for student engagement, experiential learning, and communications beyond traditional video formats.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides a valuable student perspective on the effective use of immersive video formats to increase student engagement and collect feedback on media effectiveness.
  • AML project supervisor to research and evaluate examples of immersive video, both mono and stereoscopic, to gain an understanding of and develop a strategy for immersive video applications.
  • Works with AML staff to learn how to use the team's VR 180 video and ambisonic (directional) audio recording equipment, post-production tools, and related workflows.
  • Works with the AML project supervisor to select a short project suitable for immersive video. The project must be student-focused for content and be appropriately scoped for completion during the fall semester of 2024.
  • Works with AML project supervisor to plan and produce the immersive video project, including content treatment development, project management, production planning/scheduling, and editing.
    Presents the completed video project to a select group of student peers for review and feedback on the effectiveness of the intern's project.
  • Learning Outcomes:
    • Gains familiarity with leading-edge immersive video formats along with an understanding of their relative strengths, weaknesses, and applications.
    • Works with a collaborative team to plan, design, implement, and evaluate an immersive VR video project that they lead and produce.
    • Gains technical, project design and management, and critical thinking and analytical skills useful to both their educational and professional career paths.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
Preferred
  • Currently enrolled in Information Technology, Informatics, or other computing/engineering field major or minor
WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred
  • Completed some video production or communications coursework
SKILLS

Required
  • Strong interest in advanced media technologies and their applications.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new skills and techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates range of foundational media production skills.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism
Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
