Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Assists in MSE's communications initiatives, including two weekly email newsletters, blogs and other written content, social media, video, and more.
- Writes stories of interest to IU medical students that will appear on blogs and in the newsletter.
- Proofreads/edits the weekly newsletters and other content as required.
- Creates the first draft of the weekly Student Events newsletter.
- Attends IUSM events as needed, including covering an event for blog and social media content.
- Edits and executes mailings, interdepartmental communications, external communications, and email communications.
- Monitors relevant social media and respond to communication inquiries by providing information and explaining procedures.
- Assists with accuracy of mailing and distribution lists and make regular updates as staff and processes change.
- Assists in creating video and social media content (primarily on Instagram).
- Prepares reports, communications timelines, and calendars.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University with a GPA of 2.5 or above.
Preferred
- Video editing experience.

- Manages time efficiently, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Responds well to constructive criticism.
- Demonstrates intermediate writing ability or better with a good handle on basic grammar and syntax.

- Ability to ask probing open-ended questions that elicit responses. If necessary, pivot with good follow-up questions.
- Demonstrates curiosity to learn new things; enjoys meeting new people and isn't shy about approaching with questions.
- Demonstrates commitment to high-quality content that is accurate and engaging.
- Demonstrates eagerness to learn new skills.
- Team player with the ability to adapt to a variety of tasks.
- Knowledge of videography and editing.
- Demonstrates a baseline knowledge of social media.
