The Student Involvement and Leadership Center (SILC) supports co-curricular life at Indiana University Bloomington. With that in mind, the SILC staffs' principal responsibility is to advise, mentor, and prepare students (Indiana Memorial Union Board, student employees, etc.) to be responsible leaders in the execution of their obligations to the IMU and the university. The initiation and execution of co-curricular programs and services that support students, employees, alumni, and university guests is a vital component of the SILC office.

Job Summary

The Social Media Manager works to promote and generate awareness for the Union Board Film series at the Indiana Memorial Union. This position primarily manages and distributes all marketing materials related to the film series, a long-standing tradition of Union Board programming that provides students, staff, and faculty the ability to watch films on campus for free. This position performs the duties of a Film Projectionist and during the academic year, the film series happens Friday & Saturday in the Whittenberger Auditorium.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Develops effective marketing strategies to boost brand awareness and event attendance.
  • Conducts target audience research, oversee the uploading of posts to social media, and consistently envision new ways to expand the Union Board Films brand.
  • Develops effective strategies and adjust to strategies that match current trends among students.
  • Works closely with the Union Board Films and Marketing Directors, as well as the marketing staff, to develop and implement social media ideas.
  • Preparation of the film series before the event by either building the film or ingesting a digital copy into the projector to ensure it is working and running the films at each screening.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
Preferred
  • Pursuit of a degree in Marketing, Communications, Media Advertising, Journalism, Digital Media, or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • Understanding and extensive experience with various social media accounts, how they are best utilized, and how to strategically engage via these platforms.
  • Experience taking pictures and filming/editing videos/Reels (framing, editing, use of sound and text, etc.).
SKILLS

Required
  • Effective communication skills
  • A team player with interest in marketing and social media
  • Has basic principles of design/photography
  • Motivated individual with drive to discover solutions and achieve success
  • Aid the Union Board mission
  • Familiar with social media trends; knowing when to experiment with new tactics and when not to.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Hours

Approximately five to ten hours are required each week for this position depending on the size and number of events that are planned.
