Position Summary

The Pathologists' Assistant (PA) will work under the general supervision of a Pathologist. As a PA, you will independently perform or assist in accessioning, dissection, and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens; and/or performs or assists with evisceration, dissection, and narrative description for hospital and forensic autopsy cases.

Primary responsibilities include any combination of the following:
  1. Performs or assists in the accessioning, dissection, and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens.
  1. Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations, within established protocol and procedural parameters.
  1. Coordinates or assists with the procurement and handling of tissue specimens destined for research purposes.
  1. Participates in the accessioning and labeling of specimens, specimen storage and disposal, and the maintenance of reagents and equipment.
  1. Performs or assists with evisceration, dissection, and narrative description for hospital and forensic autopsy cases.
  1. For surgical pathology and/or autopsy cases, performs photography and maintains digital files, ensuring a high standard of specimen photography.
  1. Supports the department's educational efforts through interactions with student interns, medical students, residents and fellows.
  1. Other duties may be assigned, consistent with the position and incumbent's training.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in scientific or medicine-related field
  • Successful completion of an accredited Pathologist Assistant program
  • 0-2 years of experience

Preferred:
  • ASCP certification (PA)
