Patient Account Representative Opportunity

Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient treatment services to children, adolescents and adults at our 86-bed facility in Panama City, FL and outpatient services to adolescents and adults at our four outpatient centers located throughout the Florida Panhandle. Additionally, we offer specialized treatment for active duty military members through our Military Resiliency Program, specialized chemical dependency treatment and TMS therapy for chronic depression.

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for verification of benefits, screen self pay patients for charity and assist patients with Medicaid applications. Billing, follow-up and collection of assigned patient accounts by contacting insurance companies/patients and working closely with the early out collection vendor and bad debt agencies. Post deposit verifying accurate payment, reconcile EOBs received from third-party payers through contractual allowance codes and timely follow up on outstanding Managed care accounts for payment. Responsible for issuing all self pay refunds and notify insurance companies for overpayments and other duties as assigned.

Job Duties/Responsibilities :
  • Provide account and billing information to patients, collection/early out/and physician billing agencies.
    • Priority is to complete in a timely manner with follow up on insurance companies owing a balance.
    • Follow up on third party accounts that are pending on the AR.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of collection measures for uncollected accounts.
    • Control collection efforts of accounts in an organized, professional and efficient manner.
    • Contact patients within 3 days regarding outstanding balance.
    • Prepare billing correspondence within 72 hours of receipt.
    • Ensure a minimum of 30 contacts are made daily and documented in MS-4.
  • Provide required follow-up on all patient balance accounts as assigned.
    • Priority in timely follow-up efforts on accounts aged over 90 days.
    • Document follow-up efforts clearly with phone, person contacted, resolution, and check numbers as applicable.
    • Ensure collection letters are sent to comply with established corporate policy and collection procedure.
    • Review accuracy of demographics and billing information in the system.
  • Prepares daily bank deposit. Reconcile and post EOBs and Adjustments.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and benefits.
  • Maintain documentation of accounts placed with physician billing agency and accounts to be written off as uncollectible
  • Maintains documentation of accounts placed with the bad debt agencies. Acts as a liaison with each agency.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalency required. Some college or billing coursework preferred.
  • Two (2) years of healthcare billing, computer and business software experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of advanced Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel) and HMS.
  • Excellent communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.
