Job Description
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Demonstrates knowledge of principles and practice
PCT Responsibilities:
Assisting nursing staff in the daily care of patients includes, but not limited to:
*Be sure to report any unusual findings such as changes in skin, or any abnormal skin findings, to RN. Report abnormal VS, I/Os, blood sugar checks, and ADL (Activities of Daily Living) to the RN immediately. Clarify with the RN if you will be documenting I/Os, ADLs, etc. If you bathe, assist out of bed, feed, assist to toilet, empty urinal/foley, etc., please be sure to be accurate on your measurements and chart in EPIC where appropriate.

Additional Job Description
Minimum Requirements: Education: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Experience: One year of patient care work experience in a health care facility, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT or Paramedic certification, Bachelor’s Degree or enrollment in a healthcare related program with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course at an accredited institution or equivalent training preferred. Credentials: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Demonstrates knowledge of principles and practice
PCT Responsibilities:
Assisting nursing staff in the daily care of patients includes, but not limited to:
- Performing bed side shift reports/ handoff at beginning and end of shift to staff (see PCT bedside shift report template as resource)
- Participate in shift huddles
- Obtaining vital signs q4 hours or as ordered
- Obtaining blood glucose checks as ordered
- Ambulating patients (assist & encourage out of bed)
- Assisting in toileting/ emptying foley catheter, ostomy
- Assist in bathing/ showering daily
- Feed/set up meals
- Reporting I & O (input/output/meal consumption) to nursing staff, and communicating what you have recorded in EPIC
- Repositioning/turning patients q2 hours
- Ensure all signs are current and accurate outside & inside of patient’s room
- Assist with folding gowns for isolation rooms during downtime
- Assist with unit clean up/stocking during downtime
