Patient Service Representative - Occupational Medicine

Job Schedule: Full-Time 40 hours, Monday through Friday

Location: Middletown, CT with the ability to cover the Essex office on occasion

The Patient Services Representative is the central point of communication among patients, employers, and members of the health care team. In this capacity, the Patient Services Representative willensure that patients are informed, updated, and assisted consistent with the needs of the department or practice. This includes determining patient needs by communicating with patients and employers, listening to their concerns, and making sure those needs are met by working with patients, employers, and department staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients and responds to inquiries providing appropriate customer service
  • Assists patient with practice/office-specific registration processes, to include kiosk/computer registration process if needed
  • Enters patient demographic and/or insurance information into appropriate electronic medical record (EMR) system for tracking, billing or other purposes
  • Efficiently schedules/reschedules patient appointments based on department/practice policy or guidelines
  • Collects and accurately posts patient payments as required
  • Answers phones, emails, and iPad texts and responds to patient inquiries appropriately; promptly addresses patients needs based on the scope of the position and clinical setting. Appropriately triage calls/requests, referring to providers as necessary.
  • Completes appropriate work items utilizing EMR system, to include patient follow-ups, pre-registrations, referrals, insurance authorizations, and other matters as needed
  • Assist outside vendors/companies with account set-up, changes to company profile and requested services.
  • Prepares patient charts for next day and reviews schedule
  • Scans patient records into appropriate EMR system
  • Processes faxes, incoming mail, and paperwork as required
  • Completes daily office close and reconciliation as needed
  • Processing of medical record requests
  • Understands and utilizes EMR system consistent with role, abides by all federal laws and organizational privacy policies
  • Coverage of both the Middletown and Essex offices in order to maintain skills required in each location.
  • Performs administrative and other duties consistent with position and needs of office
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Solid computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Solid communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Receptionist / secretarial experience in a healthcare setting
  • Associates Degree
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and other medical privacy practices & regulations
  • Medical office experience
  • Systoc Electronic Medical Records experience
