Job Description

The Specialty Billing and Follow-up Unit Director will manage new Revenue Cycle Services (RCS) operations of assigned workflows. The position will serve as the system leader for claiming functions associated with; Medicaid outliers, No Surprise Act, Independent Dispute Resolution, Out of State Medicaid, Express Care, cross facility accounts, Express Care and other assigned claim types

General tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Revenue Cycle Services Patient Accounting Director with responsibility for the unit conducting billing and follow-up on assigned claim types. This includes pre-billing workflow; edit efficiency, timely filing, denials, claims testing, claim scrubbing, and all associated workflow
  • Ensure units assigned work queues are addressed timely and accurately
  • Conduct quality reviews of assigned claims - review for denial rates and timely filing edits
  • Identifies and implements improvement projects to ensure clean billing
  • Identify and address root causes impacting collectability of assigned claims
  • Work with Epic, EITS and hospitals to identify and correct edits and stop bills applied inappropriately or omitted that impact timely filing
  • Implement workflow reconfiguration as needed resulting from state, federal and payer actions that impacting hospital claiming
  • Develop a close partnership with EITS to make changes to claims configurations, edits and operation of Epic to ensure claims are sent as required
  • Development of reporting, benchmarking and trending of KPIs, on assigned workflows. Develop clear team goals and objectives to improve outcomes
  • Standardize and document optimal Patient Accounting workflow, thresholds for actions and performance standards.
  • All other duties, as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field; and,
2. Six years of experience in accounting, finance or business administration, two years of which must have been in a responsible supervisory or managerial capacity in areas normally related to a

hospital, medical center or health care facility; and,
3. Three years of experience as indicated in (2) in areas related to the management of patient's accounts or credits; or,
4. A satisfactory equivalent of experience, education and training.
