About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County's most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary

The Business Services Division delivers services to support the educational programs of Orange County school districts, partnering agencies and the business community it serves. The division strives to improve efficiency and implement business solutions with a high level of customer service and professionalism,while fostering a collaborative work environment. We are seeking a knowledgeable professional to act as a Payroll Services Specialists that will perform difficult and highly specialized technical responsibilities in development, implementation, and usertraining on OCDE's payroll system. The person selected will be responsible for training of school district payroll staff on proper payroll procedures and processes utilizing OCDE's payroll system. Incumbents test payroll system enhancements, updates, new applications, and systems conversions to ensure accurate processing prior to implementation and work with other staff to ensure the accuracy of payroll andr etirement processing in accordance with all applicable legal requirements. Work requires a thorough understanding of payroll systems operations, functions, and processes and applicable legal requirements and the ability to train and assist payroll staff in County school districts on its uses in their district environments.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Associate's degree in bookkeeping, accounting, or a closely related field. • Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in performing payroll duties and functions, including experience in conducting applications systems testing; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a public agency is especially desirable.
