General Summary:

Process employee tax adjustments and garnishment withholding orders based on applicable payroll laws. Ensure timely handling and set-up of garnishment orders as well as timely remittance of payments. Researches payroll payments, employee wages, and deduction history to ensure payroll tax compliance and processing of applicable adjustments. Act as liaison between the company and employees, agencies and courts, taxing jurisdictions and any third party providers as necessary to maintain compliance. Performs fact-finding analysis using all available and appropriate tools related to audit reports, databases, information requests, SOX requirements, and software applications. Recommends improvements in systems, policies and procedures to management. Creates and formats analytical reports and prepares correspondence to internal and external departments using Microsoft software tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Analyze, audit, and process payroll adjustments as needed to maintain compliance on a scheduled frequency. Utilize ADP software to review and audit exception reports to ensure company compliance. Research and resolve discrepancies related to payroll tax notices within 60 days. Export, process and resolve weekly Lawson warning report to aid in the reduction of processing errors. Handle manual data requests as needed to meet company requirements.
  • Responsible for Lawson set-up and review of garnishment orders including correspondence and scanning of all related documentation. Process lump sum payments and interact with agencies to determine amount to be withheld for quarterly and annual bonus payments and all other lump sum payments. Write, review and process reports to automate answer letters and interrogatory responses. Maintain garnishment screens by entering applicable start and stop dates for each order in a timely manner according to information contained within order and applicable deadlines.
  • Answer and resolve payroll tax and garnishment questions to provide accurate information in a timely and concise manner to courts, agencies, jurisdictions and employees.
  • Research, audit, and test payroll system withholding and wage accumulators related to tax and garnishment processing when applicable.
  • Work on special projects as assigned as well as cross train with other team members.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll processing functions and procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of payroll tax and/or garnishment requirements.
  • Self-starter with the ability to efficiently coordinate and prioritize work in a time sensitive environment.
  • Inquisitive with the ability to think creatively.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be a team player and is customer service driven.
  • Ability to create reports using Microsoft office programs and applicable report writing tools.

Qualifications

Work Experience &/or Education:

Associates degree or minimum of 2 years payroll processing, payroll garnishment and/or payroll tax experience. Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of payroll laws in a multi-state environment. Experience creating complex spreadsheets including utilization of report writing tools. Large company experience a plus.
