The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a full-time clinical track Assistant or Associate Professor faculty Psychologist in the Section of Pediatric Psychology to help develop and direct a Behavioral Consult-Liaison Service and provide outpatient services through Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Clinical program development and leadership
  • Providing psychological evaluations for children and adolescents admitted for a variety of medical and surgical concerns, including functional disorders and youth with eating disorders or suicidal ideation who are awaiting placement for more intensive psychiatric services
  • Conducting short term interventions for youth admitted to the medical units or awaiting placement in the emergency department
  • Providing consultation to medical and interprofessional teams
  • Providing outpatient psychological evaluation and treatment for youth with gastrointestinal concerns such as functional abdominal pain, inflammatory bowel disease, and rumination disorder
  • Teaching medical fellows, residents, and medical students
  • Participation in departmental and health system committees
Successful candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent from an APA-accredited program, have completed an APA-accredited internship, be licensed or license-eligible in Virginia, and be skilled in interprofessional practice in a complex, academic medical environment. Post-doctoral experience in a pediatric inpatient consult services is preferred. The Section of Pediatric Psychology is situated in the Division of Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and provides clinical service for the broader Department of Pediatrics and UVA Children's Hospital. The Section is currently comprised of five pediatric and child clinical psychologists and is excited to expand. The psychologists work closely with pediatrician colleagues, fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, and multi-disciplined allied health staff. The Department of Pediatrics is an extremely collegial and collaborative department, and the Division of Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition have outstanding working relationships with each other, providers in the community, as well as with other pediatric subspecialists and colleagues in other areas of the UVA Health System.
