    Summary:
    • The Peer Support Specialist assists the program treatment team(s) in providing direct care and support to patients. The individual participates as a member of the treatment team(s) in creating and maintaining a therapeutic milieu and in providing support to patients in our First Responder Treatment Services. The Peer Support specialist actively uses his/her own experience as a first responder as a tool to help patients in this program reach their treatment goals.

    Responsibilities:

    • Participates as a member of the treatment team(s) to provide individual care to first responders. Assists patients in articulating their personal recovery goals. Performs and may record patient care activities such as changes in a patient's condition, behavior, and unusual incidents consistent with established policies, procedures, and protocols as delegated by his/her supervisor and the patient's treatment team. Provides individual and/or group support to patients based upon relevant psychological and/or addictions principles. Participates as part of a team in assessing and improving the delivery of care on assigned unit(s). Maintains a safe and therapeutic atmosphere for the milieu by enforcing program rules, regulations and limits. Shares their own first responder experience and what skills, strengths, supports and resources they used. Acts as a liaison to formal and informal community support services, resources and recovery-supporting activities. Acts as a role model, showing patients the value of every individual recovery experience. Facilitates basic, recovery-focused psycho-education group activities.
    Credentials:

      A healthcare professional with a minimum of a Bachelors' degree ( Criminal Justice, Social Science or related field preferred)

      Related Work Experience: Possesses a basic knowledge of chemical dependency and/or behavioral health care. Minimum of 10 years experience as a first responder (e.g., police officer, firefighter, corrections officer, active duty military or veteran).
