Job Description

The Writing Center is a group of creative, supportive, and collaborative individuals who, together, help our entire community become better writers, thinkers, and learners. Working in the Writing Center means encouraging and engaging with writers from every department, both as visitors to the center and as colleagues. In supporting others, we challenge ourselves to improve our own practice.
We support students in all programs and at all stages of the writing process with thoughtful, kind, and informative feedback. Sessions may cover anything from brainstorming and outlining, to organizing and structuring, to revising sentences and citing sources. We also support peers in the development of presentations, resumes, cover letters, and CVs. Within a session, we listen, ask questions, and share reactions, rather than grading, "fixing," or simply proofreading. Our aim is for every writer to walk away from a session with something they can apply to their writing overall.

Responsibilities:
• Work scheduled shifts punctually and provide writing support via meeting by Zoom or phone (70% of time)
• Present a friendly and welcoming space for walk-ins and appointments (ongoing)
• Help define the direction and growth of the Writing Center (ongoing)
• Participate in professional development meetings (10% of time)
• Maintain familiarity with writing resources (ongoing)
• Maintain the cleanliness of the Center (ongoing)
• Facilitate writing events or workshops and work on other projects as needed (20% of time)

Qualifications

Most importantly, we seek individuals who are reflective and collaborative, able to accept and utilize feedback, and eager to grow.
• Ability to function with independence and resourcefulness in all aspects of their work
• Familiarity with the major elements of academic writing
• Patience, sensitivity, and willingness to listen
• An ethic of service to the Antioch community
• Punctuality and reliability
• Ability to analyze, prioritize, and maintain confidentiality
• Prior Writing Center experience, academic consultation, or peer support work is a benefit, but training is included
• Strong presentation and resume-writing skills are a significant plus
*Must be currently enrolled in an BA, Ma, or Doctoral Antioch program with an available work study award*

How to Apply: Send a resume, writing sample, and short cover letter discussing your interest in supporting other students' writing process. If possible, note your program and current work-study award.
