As a Histotechnologist at Mass General Brigham, you will have the opportunity to work in a top-notch facility equipped with advanced technology. Your exceptional skills and expertise will be challenged as you perform intricate laboratory procedures with utmost precision. Your proven ability to identify and analyze deviations from expected outcomes will guarantee precise diagnoses and support the progress of medical research.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex laboratory procedures, demonstrating exceptional scientific judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Analyze quality control data and take appropriate action to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Provide knowledgeable and informative responses to inquiries regarding procedures, methodology, and specific factors that can influence results.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures to enhance laboratory capabilities.
  • Use a range of general and specialized techniques to conduct histochemical procedures on tissue samples.
  • Process, cut, stain, and coverslip tissue specimens with efficiency and precision.
  • Ensure proper fixation and preservation of all specimens according to established protocols.
  • Prepare and maintain solutions and stains according to standard protocols to guarantee high-quality results.
  • Conduct microscopic examination of slides to ensure their quality and report any findings.
  • Strictly adhere to departmental and laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols in all tasks performed.
  • Maintain accurate identification of specimens, blocks, and slides throughout the workflow.
  • Actively participate in departmental, laboratory, and hospital meetings to contribute to a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Complete all required training, both in-person and online, in a timely manner to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field.
  • Ensure the organization and proper filing of slides, blocks, specimens, and requisitions.
  • Maintain tissue processors as needed to guarantee optimal performance.
  • Successfully implement any other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the lab and organization.


Qualifications

Education

  • Equivalent experience in medical technology or a related science from an accredited school is acceptable, although a Bachelor's degree is preferred.Certifications
  • ASCP Certification as histotechnologist or medical technologist required.
Experience

  • Histology laboratory experience required.
