MedStar Washington Hospital Center has a full time, day shift opening on our OR/Perioperative team. This Full-Time position will be represented by the\rService Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 722. The Perioperative Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for scheduling inpatient and outpatient surgical cases for MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training such as training in medical terminology/anatomy and computers.
Experience
  • 1-2 years experience, preferably in a high-volume medical/surgical posting/scheduling and billing environment, with good/effective communication skills required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Clear communication skills both written and verbal.\rKnowledge of basic computer programs. Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.\rAbility to keep confidential information regarding patients, and team members.\rAbility to withstand crisis events.\rAbility to provide customer service to MWHC associates across various departments.
  • Receives and screens telephone calls. Responds to a variety of inquiries and/or refers calls to appropriate personnel. Takes/forward calls to appropriate personnel. Takes/forwards messages regarding patient charges and surgical schedule to facilitate office operations.
  • Schedules regular, stand-by, diagnostic, and therapeutic surgical procedures, via telephone, walk-ins, from surgeons/office personnel submission to MedConnect.
  • Enters/posts surgical procedures, after verifying surgeon's service, daily block allocation, length of case, type of anesthesia, and delineation of privileges/procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains a variety of files, records, logs, etc.
  • Prints, reviews, and confirms the 24-hour, 48-hour, and 72-hour schedules with appropriate office personnel, which includes verification of time allocated, patient name, procedure performed, and special equipment needed.
