Purpose:

Develop talent and drive key deliverables for Personal Lines Underwriting to ensure sound quality decisions and support top-line growth and bottom-line profitability objectives. Lead a team of Personal Lines Residential Underwriters to deliver (1) underwriting quality that achieves American Modern's profitable growth goals, (2) underwriting production and service level targets that produce a meaningful collaboration and relationships with American Modern Sales Partners, and (3) develops our people to achieve their career goals.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Coach Associates to ensure a combination of logic, analysis, experience, wisdom and underwriting methods are consistently used to make sound, timely decision to solve problems
  • Support adherence to risk management policies and procedures
  • Manage service level objectives and risk quality selection
  • Network with other functional departments to resolve issues and build a team-oriented approach
  • Foster an environment that includes active listening, team building, and dynamic dialog resulting in increased employee engagement
  • Lead process improvement and workflow efficiency initiatives
  • Ensure a culture of compliance through systems, audit, and training
  • Performance management through continuous conversations and associate development
  • Support sales and business development both internally and externally
  • Utilize data and analytics to manage performance and drive efficiencies
  • Drive strategic vision and lead projects for Personal Lines Underwriting
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Knowledge / Experience:

Personal Lines Underwriting Manager
  • Required: 5+ years of underwriting experience.
  • Strongly Preferred: 2+ years supervising exempt associates, teams or process, preferably in underwriting

Personal Lines Underwriting Director
  • Required: 10+ years of underwriting experience.
  • Strongly Preferred: 5+ years supervising exempt associates, teams or process, preferably in underwriting


Education, Certifications & Designations:

Bachelor's Degree, Supervisor's certification, CPCU or other industry coursework/designation
