Crater Health District comprises the Cities of Hopewell, Emporia and Petersburg, as well as the Counties of Sussex, Greensville, Surry, Prince George and Dinwiddie. Will travel within the health district.

This position will be eligible for one (1) day a week telework after successfully completing a 6-month on the job training at the supervisor's discretion. This position will be cross-trained to all clinics such as Sexually Transmitted infection testing and treatment, Family Planning contraceptive education and counseling as per Title X grant, abnormal pap smear follow- up and referral, Immunizations across the life span, low risk prenatal care and Long-Term Screening Services (LTSS) in conjunction with the Department of Social Services to assess for Medicaid/Medicare eligibility. Provide community based holistic care. Required to assist in Public Health Emergencies, as needed.

In this role the incumbent will exercise direct supervision over multiple registered nurses to include, but not limited to, training, scheduling, formally evaluating performance and issuing discipline. Also performs direct nursing service by independently providing professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools. Exercises sound nursing judgment. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, the administration of medication and case management. Actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code. Requires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state and requires BLS certification.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff.
• Experience or ability to review, analyze data and statistics, and produce reports and knowledge of grants.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions.
• Knowledge of case management, ambulatory clinic services.
• Knowledge of nursing theories related to improving the health of the community.
• Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work.
• Work effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Additional Considerations

• Bi-lingual (Spanish) and experience with diverse cultures.
• Preferred Public Health experience.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.
