Description

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for inpatient drug distribution, outpatient dispensing and control of all drugs in the hospital system. Follows policies and procedures of the department in accordance with established hospital policy. Provides for the preparation, packaging and labeling of all sterile and non-sterile products compounded at the hospital. Cooperates with Pharmacy Manager in reviewing, revising or establishing procedures for the department. Assists in providing drug information, education, and other clinical services to physicians, nurses and other hospital personnel . Shares on-call responsibility with all pharmacist staff.

  • Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling of all sterile and non-sterile pharmaceuticals compounded
  • Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
  • Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' work flow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Develops hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.
  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections; maintains records for controlled substances; removes outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervises the work results of support personnel; maintains current registration; studies existing and new legislation; anticipates legislation; advises management on needed actions.
  • Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Medication reconciliation with assistance from pharmacy technicians
  • Patient discharge medication counseling
  • Conducts medication therapy management per approved collaborative practice agreement
  • Supervises both inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical preparation and dispensing.
  • Assist Director of Pharmacy in quality improvement/assurance projects, auditing/reporting, or other non-dispensing responsibilities as requested.


Requirements

PRN or "as needed" employees provide a crucial role within the organization, giving departments more flexibility to operate and ensuring that Delta Health provides superior services to our patients.

  • PRN minimum requirement: 2 shifts per month, 1 holiday per year
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree required.
  • Colorado licensure as a Registered Pharmacists.
  • Hospital pharmacy residency or experience in Unit Dose, IV Admixture, TPN, and pharmacokinetics is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Hospital Pharmacy preferred.
