Responsibilities

Oversee, order, track and organize prepackaged pharmaceuticals. Prepares and participates for inspection by consulting pharmacist. Receive shipments of prepackaged pharmaceuticals and reconcile pharmacy manifest. Perform a range of staff support functions.

Essential Function:

  • Reconcile and Accounts for ALL medications.
  • Communicates with pharmacy vendor regarding medication concerns/issues.
  • Perform a range of routine administrative tasks for the pharmacy as required.
  • Assure that the charge nurse is informed of the delivery; remove discontinued drugs from the nursing units, communicating this to the charge nurse.
  • Continue to educate by attending drug in-services and keeping up with policy changes.
  • Ensures cleanliness and orderliness of pharmacy at all times.
  • Conducts monthly Compliance Audit as indicated by Armor policies.
  • Prepare inventory and PAR levels for medications.
  • Oversees and supervises pharmacy operations to assure compliance of P & P and Standards.
  • Monitors and assures completeness of pharmacy new orders and re-orders.
  • Monitors and assures completeness of MAR's, if applicable.
  • Monitors organization & cleanliness of Med Carts.
  • Monitors Med carts and ensures that they are always secure and locked when unattended.
  • Assures medication orders are submitted to Pharmacy by cut-off time to assure next day delivery.
  • Prepares for and participates in monthly/quarterly pharmacy inspections with Consultant Pharmacist.
  • Attends Monthly MAC Meetings as requested.
  • Prepares and participate in quarterly Pharmacy and t herapeutics meetings.
  • Assures medications in the Med Carts are stored appropriately ie; Internals and Externals stored separately.
  • Conducts regular checks for Out-dated or Expired Medications in all area where medications are storage.
  • Responsible for returning outdated, discontinued, expired and/or all medications not being utilized to pharmacy vendor on a routine basis.
  • Ensures all open vials/bottles are dated in all housing units & pharmacy.
  • Monitors med passes for compliance, infection control issues, and possible use of medications from a different patient.
  • Assures staff is not pre-pouring except in designated appropriate areas.
  • Assures that all med-nurses know to report any non-available medication ie; medication nurse notify pharmacy liaison if medication not available.
  • Monitors and assures there is no de-facing on medication cards.
  • Respond to requests from Security Staff as well as Armor Staff in accordance with Armor and Facility Guidelines. This includes following the rules and regulations for employee conduct/behavior and chain of command set forth by the command staff at all times while working within the detention/correctional facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Current/Active state license as an LPN
  • Current CPR certificate
  • Proficient with electronic medical records
  • Ability to pass pre-employment Level 2 clearance to include a background check and drug screen

  • Ability to sort, check, count and verify numbers.
  • Interpret and perform mathematical computations.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures..
  • Clerical, word processing, and/or office skills.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to multitask and communicate effectively with staff and supervisors
