  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Pharmacy Tech-Acute Care performs technical functions in accordance with the scope of this job description.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Must complete the Employer-based training program within the time frame specified for the employee on the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy website.
      • New hires are exempt from this requirement if any of the following conditions are met:
        • Continuous registration as a pharmacy technician with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy since January 1st, 2013.
        • Previous completion of a training program approved by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.

    • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Minnesota Technician registration prior to start date.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Previous completion of Minnesota Board of Pharmacy approved pharmacy tech training program.
    • Experience: Previous work in a pharmacy environment.
    • Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Familiarity with drug names, both brand and generic; understanding and ability to utilize the Pharmacy Information System as well as PCs in the pharmacy; operational knowledge of equipment used in the pharmacy; operational knowledge of all equipment used in the IV room; knowledge of aseptic technique for preparing parenteral products; knowledge to estimate, calculate and accurately check all procedures for solving calculation problems; ability to follow written and oral instructions with accuracy and dependability; ability to communicate verbal and written instructions; ability to work sustained attention on repetitive tasks. Ability to distinguish routine functions from those that require professional judgment; good finger dexterity; ability to do light typing; ability to learn and participate in all areas assigned; ability to adapt to the changing role of Hospital pharmacy and develop new technician roles; ability to give consistent attention to details. No history of drug addiction or misuses; good physical and emotional health patterns; attends lectures and classes for self improvement; pleasant personality and cooperative attitude in adjusting to a variety of pharmacy situations; work experience that indicates responsibility, maturity and accountability. In addition, knowledge of organizing work responsibilities efficiently; demonstrates care, alertness and exactness. Able to work varying shifts as needed.
    • READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
    • WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
    • SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    • REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
