POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician include compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of the facility. Pharmacy Technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a licensed pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services. Acknowledges and responds appropriately to the hospital's customer relations philosophy, including the five fundamentals of the AIDET program

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Obtains medication, enteral and IV solution orders from nursing units; fills orders and delivers medication.
2. Maintains pharmacy and nursing drug storage areas.
3. Maintains the 24 hour unit dose distribution system.
4. Maintains patient profiles and completes charges.
5. Participates in inventory control activities.
6. Assists with pharmacy communication.
7. Demonstrates willingness to cooperate with department staffing needs.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education
Pharmacy Technician training required. Typing and computer skills required.

Certification/Registration
Registration through the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.

Physical Demands
May require standing for long periods. Bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, lifting, sitting (maintain static posture for computer use).

Working Conditions
May be exposed to potentially hazardous and toxic substances. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Work is performed both inside and outside working areas with exposure to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment. Working at heights, being around moving machinery, exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
