Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing patient care in accordance with patient care needs as directed by nursing staff and in accordance with physician's orders and departmental protocols.
  • Organizes and completes patient care tasks as assigned with supervision provided by the nursing and medical staff and in accordance with hospital and Emergency Department policy.
  • Demonstrates and maintains clinical skills proficiency in all required Emergency Department technical support staff skills, including the use of equipment (as appropriate for position).
  • Ensures that treatment areas are properly stocked with patient care supplies and assists in maintaining unit cleanliness.
  • Assists in monitoring and documenting the patient's response to nursing interventions and physician's orders and informs the Registered Nurse or physician (as appropriate) of changes in the patient's condition.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and educational activities, including attendance of at least 85% of staff meetings (10 out of 12).

Qualifications

Job Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Job Requirements
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience
  • Certification from nationally recognized agency, required. Accepted agencies and certifications include, but are not limited to:
    • National Heathcareer Association - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA)
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology - Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP)
    • American Medical Technologists - Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT)
    • National Center for Competency Testing - National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT)
    • American Certification Agency - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA)
