The Opportunity: Phlebotomist (Salem, NH)

What You'll Work On

Under general supervision of the clinics Sr. Practice Manager, the incumbent will perform a variety of support services to the laboratory and provide phlebotomy services for all clients. Depending on the area in which an individual is assigned for his/her shift, the responsibilities vary. Additionally, incumbent must be flexible to cross cover multiple locations, depending on need.

LABORATORY PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOLS:

  • Maintain established department policies and procedures, objectives, safety,
  • Environmental and infection control standards.
  • Process a variety of specimens in accordance to established protocols.
  • Data entry into both the clinic and laboratory information systems.
  • Monitor requests for laboratory testing that have not been processed through the laboratory information system. Ensure that all outstanding orders are accounted for and that any missing specimens are found.
  • Document the receipt of specimens in the laboratory information system. Perform quality assurance checks on outpatient requisitions to ensure the correctness of data entry.
  • Sort and file requisitions in the appropriate location according to established protocols.
  • Pull all out-patient requisitions that require follow-up with the physician offices. Obtain blood specimens for private outpatients
  • Understand through yearly competencies, all aspects of phlebotomy including, age specific competencies, the specific procedures needed for pediatric patients (if applicable)
  • Maintain work area in a neat, orderly, and well-stocked manner.
  • Communicate with medical, nursing, and office personnel regarding laboratory results and protocols.
  • Provide back-ups for all areas of responsibility for a phlebotomist regardless of the individual assignment. Perform other related duties as required or as responsibilities dictate to all other locations.
  • Demonstrate the role of a phlebotomist in a professional manner.
  • Assume accountability for his/her position extends self when unusual need arises.
  • Report for work on time and give adequate notice of absenteeism or tardiness.
  • Routinely undertake additional tasks when his/her assignment is completed.
  • Accepts constructive criticism regarding own performance and strives to make improvements.
  • Adheres to policies established for meals, breaks, dress code, and parking. Exhibits courtesy and respect to patients, families, physicians, clients, and coworkers.

Qualifications

About You

Skills:

  • Required: ASCP certification or certification within the first year of employment. Knowledge of Medical terminology. Ability to effectively deal with a wide range of personalities, technical and support staff. Ability to handle several processes concurrently.

Experience:

  • Preferred: Prefer 1+ year of phlebotomy experience and demonstrated proficiency in the phlebotomy field.


Education/Degree requirements:

  • Required: Requires completion of High School or Equivalent, and Certificate of completion in Phlebotomy or Medical Assisting or a phlebotomy course as part of an associate or bachelor's Degree program such as nursing.


Licensure, Certifications, or Registration:

  • Required: Phlebotomy ASCP Certification within 1st year of employment
  • BLS Certification required within 6 months of hire
