Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Physical Therapist PT is responsible for the direction, utilization, supervision and instruction of supportive professional staff, volunteers and students utilized in his or her area of physical therapy services. They are responsible and accountable for the care of assigned patients and directs others to assure the delivery of Patient-Centered Care, based on patient needs, values and choices to the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. The PT Screens, evaluates and treats patients with various disabilities, disorders and injuries according to the principals and problems addressed in physical therapy. The patient is involved in the treatment process and the goal of therapy is to help the patient achieve their greatest potential within their level of disability. The PT is expected to practice autonomously within the practice guidelines of the VA Board of Physical Therapy, professional standards and the policies of Norton Community Hospital. The PT is expected to have basic understanding of billing practices for the State of Virginia. The PT maintains current knowledge of evidence-based physical therapy practices and demonstrates critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the rehabilitation process. The PT participates in rehabilitation specific educational opportunities and participates in FIM credentialing. The position involves active participation in quality improvement, performance improvement and program development activities. The PT serves as a professional role model as a caregiver and resource for peers and other providers both inside and outside of Norton Community Hospital.
