The Opportunity

We are seeking a 40-hour, Day shift Physician Assistant to support our Inpatient Orthopedics team. Weekly schedules consist of (3) 13-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, including rotating weekends. We are located on the NWH Main Campus at 2014 Washington Street, Newton, 02462

Our PAs are responsible for covering the Emergency Department and the inpatient floor while also conducting inpatient surgical consults and providing Operating Room coverage. The Physician Assistants on the Pediatrics Orthopedics team share some of their time with the NWH Neurological Surgery Service. Providers work autonomously to the top of their licensure and are responsible for:

• Present and discussing their evaluations with Attending Surgeons to determine proper treatment plan

• Ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting result

• Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to: wound care/debridement; tube/drain insertion, care or removal; suturing/suture removal; insertion or removal of traction pins; splint, brace or cast application or removal; medication administration including IV push drugs and the injection of steroid and anesthetic agents; insertion or removal of central venous lines; insertion of nasogastric tubes; bladder catheterization; phlebotomy and IV insertion; and electrocardiogram

• Conducting daily patient rounds and attending weekly grand surgical round

• Participating in the discharge planning proce

• Educating and counseling patients and familie

• Orienting medical students, physician assistant and surgical residents to the environment, patient care practices, and hospital policies and procedure

• Participating in the quality improvement/quality assurance proce

  • Required: Master's degree from an accredited US PA-C program


License/Certification

  • Required: Physician Assistant license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts


Experience

• 2+ years of experience as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant preferred
