The Department of Physics, at the University of South Dakota (USD), invites applications for a part-time Adjunct faculty to instruct courses at USD Sioux Falls campus (located at 4801 N Career Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57107). Specific courses and sessions currently being sought are:
* PHYS 185/185L Solar System Astronomy + Lab (4 credits total) Fall 2024
* PHYS 187/187L Stars, Galaxies, and Cosmology ( 4 credits total) Spring 2025
These descriptive courses introduce students to 1) solar system astronomy, with emphasis on the development of astronomy, optical instruments and techniques, and solar system objects and 2) stellar astronomy, with emphasis on stars, nebulae, galaxies, and cosmology. Both courses meet System General Education Requirement: SGR #6, and qualify for High School Dual Credit: HSDC
Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in Physics, or a master's degree in a related field with at least 18 credit hours of relevant Physics coursework. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Please submit a CV and provide the names/contact of a professional reference.
This position is compensated per course, with a basic Master's-prepared rate of $5600 per 4-credit course or a Ph.D.-prepared rate of $6800 per 4-credit course. Should these courses be low-enrolled, salary may be negotiated based on break-even rates.
